All-State

Moving our conference to the Hilton New Orleans Riverside has allowed LMEA to add four middle school ensembles. LMEA now sponsors eleven All-State Ensembles for outstanding high school and middle school musicians.

  • High School: Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble
  • Middle School: Band, Choir, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra

Selected students have the opportunity to perform under nationally recognized ensemble directors. These ensembles will perform at LMEA’s Annual Professional Development Conference, held in January 2025. Refer to the current year’s schedule for the exact dates and for each ensembles’ audition requirements.

Eligibility

  • High School Ensembles: 9th – 12th grade students
  • Middle School Ensembles: 6th – 8th grade students
  • Student’s ensemble director must be a current full LMEA member
  • Students auditioning must be enrolled in a Louisiana-accredited high school and must be an active member of that school’s ensemble program.  In a situation where there is no ensemble in the school, the student must be certified by the eligible music teacher at that school or a private teacher who is a current full LMEA member.
  • Students are eligible for membership in only one All-State group.

Audition Requirements

  • Specific information about audition requirements can be accessed through the division links in the drop-down menu.
  • Band and choir have 1st and 2nd rounds audition. 2nd round auditions are recorded in the student’s district at a designated time and location. Recordings will be submitted by the district to the division chair for adjudication and selection to All-State ensembles.
  • Jazz ensemble, guitar ensemble, and orchestra auditions are recorded at the district level and submitted to the appropriate division chair for adjudication and selection to All-State ensembles.
  • Orchestra strings will have a state level/chair placement audition immediately after All-State registration (at the event) and just prior to the first rehearsal. Information will be available on the All-State schedule.
  • All students must audition in the district where their school is located.

Audition Results and All-State Member Information

    • Results will be posted and linked to the drop-down menu as soon as they are finalized.
    • Forms for students selected to an All-State ensemble are linked in the drop-down menu. All forms have strict deadlines. It is critical that all due dates are observed by students, parents, and directors.
    • All-State music for students selected to an ensemble will be distributed to District Directors or their designated representative once all results are confirmed. Directors should make arrangements to get their students’ music as soon as possible after rosters are posted.
